Metallurgical Resources Comprehensive Utilization

The NEU Metallurgical Resources Comprehensive Utilization Innovation Team is a youth scientific research innovation team based on the key national discipline of Metallurgical Engineering and the Polymetallic Paragenic Ore Ecological Metallurgy Ministry Of Education Key Laboratory, aiming to provide a dynamic platform for students’ innovation, and constantly improve their the capacity for scientific research and sense of innovation, and cultivate high-quality innovative talents.

Guiding teachers of this team are Professor Jiang Maofa, Professor Liu Chengjun, and Zhang Bo. Jiang Maofa is the foregoer of NEU’s key national discipline of Metallurgical Engineering, the member of the Discipline Appraisal Group under the State Council, director of the Polymetallic Paragenic Ore Ecological Metallurgy Ministry of Education Key Laboratory, and he was awarded National Famous Teachers, Talents In Liaoning Province and other awards. Liu Chengjun now is the deputy director of the NEU Iron and Steel Metallurgy Research Institute, and he won the National Metallurgical Youth Awards, and he entered the Program for New Century Excellent Talents. Team members are outstanding doctors, postgraduates and graduates.

The team takes “Unity, innovation and vitality” as its guiding principle, and under the guidance of famous professors, using high-quality educational resources and outstanding student team, the team undertook scientific research in the aspect of efficiently usage of special metallurgical resources. According research direction and working plan, the team organized students of different levels and formed many research teams. The team conducted students self-management, through students’ mutual help, a good atmosphere of team member helping each other, encouraging each other and studying from each other.

Facing the current situation of low comprehensive utilization of China’s polymetallic paragenic ore, large quantity of Metallurgical solid waste, and the inefficient utilization of metallurgical tailing slag, the team did many researches around efficient utilization of polymetallic paragenic ore (one-time metallurgical resources), the comprehensive utilization of the high added value of metallurgical tailing slag (two-time metallurgical resources), and now it has gotten many fruitful results. In recent years, the team has conducted 3 National College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Plan Projects, and all of them were awarded as the outstanding National College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Plan Project. The team has participated the Liaoning Challenge-cup Extracurricular and Academic Contest twice, and respectively won the second prize and the third prize. Team members published more than 10 scientific papers on famous academic journals and conferences both home and abroad, and 4 of them were listed in the SCI or EI search engine, and 3 of them got National Invention Patent.

Through unswerving hard work, the NEU Metallurgical Resources Comprehensive Utilization Innovation Team will gradually become a specialized and dynamic youth innovation team.
