NEWNEU innovation team is based on NEU Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Institute. Now it has 40 full-time staffs, professional teachers and students, and its main work is to conduct talent cultivation, scientific research and science popularization. It is the only one “National Science Popularization Creation and Product Development Demonstration Team” in northeast China. The student team of it is called “NEU Demonstrative Students Innovation Team”.

The research orientation of this team is Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, human-computer interaction. The main subjects are robot soccer system, robot control Based on BCI (brain machine interface), creative design of modular robot, Robot science applications and application, and so on. Team leader, Professor Zhao Shuying now is the deputy director of NEU Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Institute, and she won the first of China’s Robot Soccer World Cup championship when she was the head of the NEU Soccer Robot Project.

Since the foundation of this team, they insisted combination of industries, colleges and institutes, and acquired remarkable achievements in theoretical research, students cultivation, competition of science and technology, research and development and other aspects. The team published more than 40 papers, and got great results in Mathematical Modeling Contest, FIFA and The Robocup Robot Football Match, The Asia-Pacific College Students Robot Contest, Freescale Intelligence Car Competition And Technology Innovation Contest, etc. And among which one International first prize and one second prize of American Mathematical Modeling Contest; many prizes in National Mathematical Modeling Contest; and many research subjects entered the National College Students' Innovative Experiment Plan; two second prizes in The Third Huawei Cup National College Students' Intelligent Design Contest Finals; the first team and second team of NEWNEU respectively won the first and second prize in the robocup standard platform technology challenge contest of the 2011 China Robot Competition and Robocup Open Tournament. They also provided more than 50 scientific exhibits for China science and technology museum, Shenyang Science Place and some other tens of science and technology museums, and provided more than 500 designs and suggestion for Liaoyang science and technology museum and Liaoning science and technology museum. The team successively won the “Creative award” and exhibits innovation “Honorary Award” in exhibits assessment activities organized by China Association for Science and Technology.

The team highly values foreign exchange and cooperation. In the 11^th China Equipment Manufacturing Expo and National 863 Project Robot Technology Theme Exchange, NEWNEU team’s research outcomes aroused great attentions and recognition. In August, 2013, the team was invited to take part in the Shenyang-Kawasaki twin town robot invitational tournament, and make academic communication.

Look into the future, NEWNEU innovation team will continue to uphold the spirit of “rigorous scholarship, and to be the first”, and make greater achievements on the road of innovation.
